How much difference can there be? Once an overhead conveyor carries your goods, or boxes or whatever, from one place to the next, then what’s the difference between a top quality system and on that isn’t so, well, ‘top quality’?

Like anything else you buy, there is a great deal of difference between a well-made, high-quality overhead conveyor and its ‘budget-friendly’ counterpart. For any business considering installing or replacing an overhead system, choosing a better system will mean downtime, lower maintenance costs, and a longer lasting conveyor.

But just about every overhead conveyor manufacturer will tell you that their systems are ‘the best’. So how can you tell a good overhead system form a not so good one?

Here are a few of the features to look for as signs that you’re getting a well-built, low-maintenance, long-lasting overhead conveyor system:

1. Pre-Stretched Chain

Imagine your car is stuck and another driver comes to the rescue with a rope. Except when the rescue car tries to pull you out, the rope just keeps stretching and you go nowhere. That’s a bit of an extreme example of what happens when an overhead conveyor chain stretches – it can lead to a lot of problems. Problems that are eliminated by a pre-stretched chain.

2. Modular Design

Unless your facility is a new build, you can’t afford too much or any downtime to install a conveyor system. It must assemble quickly and be able to work around your existing machinery, shelves or whatever you have. So as to have minimal impact on the day-to-day working of your business. Modular design allows for virtually limitless configuration options all easily and quickly assembled.

3. Stainless Steel

If you are looking for the absolute highest of quality in an overhead conveyor, it must be made of stainless steel. From corrosion-free durability to smoother operation due to the reduced-friction that comes from stainless steel. There simply is no other metal better suited to an overhead conveyor system.

Look out for imitators
